Snowshoeing is an excellent way to appreciate the wild and natural beauty of a winter walk on the North Shore. It's the perfect winter activity for anyone from young children to seniors. The learning curve is virtually nil - you can go from beginner to intermediate in the first hour. The cost is nominal, rentals are widely available, and virtually every hiking trail along the North Shore becomes a snowshoe trail once it is covered with a decent layer of snow (except for those designated for cross country skiing or snowmobiling).

"All Minnesota State Parks and Forests are open and available for snowshoeing activities. Snowshoe trekkers have the advantage of being able to blaze their own trails in the park or forest and are not confined to a particular area or trail. Please note however, that snowshoe activity must be kept off of groomed ski and snowmobile trails. Some State Parks have cleared sections of trail for snowshoe use. Call ahead to make sure they have "packed" snowshoe trails if a designated trail is important to you."

Designated snowshoe trails can be seen on the following North Shore Ski Trail maps:

Tofte to Oberg
Lutsen to Spruce Creek
